Our country is broken.
The issues facing us are seemingly insurmountable and one generation is simply passing on all the problems to the next generation. That is why life is not going well for our country today. We need to pass on all the lessons we failed to learn and the principles we did not practice.
When God created this world, He established certain principles. These principles govern relationships, that if practiced bring order and prosperity to our world. Since God invented it all, He has the right to make the rules – Father knows best.
So He made some simple relationship rules, ten to be exact.
The first four rules give the parameters on how to relate to our Creator, God. The last six give us parameters on how to relate to our fellow human beings. They are really quite simple in concept, but extremely difficult in practice.
Most people know a little about some of these commands, but few understand how foundational they are to the whole of human existence.
Many do not follow these rules out of ignorance, while many choose not to obey them out of independence or rebellion. The result is brokenness – brokenness in our relationship with our Creator, God, and brokenness in relationship with our fellow human beings. This brokenness results in a breakdown of all relationships and destruction of our peace and well-being.
In the original language of the Old Testament, Hebrew, there is a word translated as “peace.” This word, “peace,” is defined as “everything that makes for a person’s highest good.” In the Bible, peace is not only the absence of evil, but the presence of all good things; freedom from trouble and enjoyment of all good. The biblical concept also embodies the concept of “wholeness.”
Picture being at the center of a circle with “peace” meaning complete well-being in every direction. Wholeness in all relationships, with God, with all people, with all circumstances and in all situations; being in total harmony in one’s environment. It is wholeness both internally and externally, everything whole and in order.
This “wholeness,” or “wellness” is only possible when we have a proper relationship with God, vertically, and with others, horizontally. God gave us the 10 Commandments for that very reason. And our Father God knows best.
